Instructor Policy
Marketing of Instructor Business
The content and focus of the class should be the topic listed. Review the course description and ensure that you are prepared to speak to the topics described for the class. The student will see this as a “warranty” of what will happen and what they will learn as part of the class. Reframe from marketing your products and services, if you also have a business. LSN does not want its customers to be marketed to by other business interests. It is permissible to inform the students as part of your introduction that you are a business owner if that supports how you became an expert in the skill you are teaching.
Cancellation and Class Adjustments
When and where you teach is something we must know. If there are any changes in the class, e.g., length, materials fee, substitute teacher, etc. please inform LSN. We depend on you to be reliable. Please do not commit to anything you are unable to deliver and ensure you are teaching to what was described in your class description.
Only in the case of genuine emergency or serious medical condition is it acceptable to cancel a class. Please let us know immediately if you have an emergency that requires class cancellation. LSN will communicate with our customers.
LSN reserves the right to cancel a class, modify times, locations, and instructors at will.
Become familiar with the Student Cancellation and Refund Policies. Do not negotiate directly with student on transfers, cancelations, or refunds. LSN will work directly with the student on these matters.
Payment Schedule
Payment processing takes place on the 1st and the 15th of each month. Upon successful completion of the class and the submission of the class sign-in roster to LSN, a check will be mailed to you at the next processing cycle to the address specified. If a student drops your class within the acceptable guidelines noted or if under extreme conditions the student demands a refund the class, then those students will not be considered as part of the students enrolled in the class.
Student Privacy
LSN takes student privacy as an utmost concern. LSN does not permit you to obtain information from the students to use for personal or business interest.
Classroom Maintenance
Please leave the classroom as you found it. For example, turn out lights, clean up trash, etc.
If you have special clean-up needs and require support, please inform LSN.
Instructor Conduct
LSN is extremely conscious of its reputation and realizes our instructors are often our front lines. Baseline good conduct such as respectfulness, dependability, and kindness are expected at all times. Arrive to your class 15-30 minutes early to ensure all setups are in place. Use humor if you have technical difficulties with equipment and always have a back-up plan. You are expected to ensure your class runs smoothly even if issues arise. LSU will reach out to you the day or two before your class to ensure you are prepared. If you have special needs, please ensure you contact LSN ahead of time so additional equipment, setups, etc can be ready.
Class Structure Guidelines
Our students are active adults and have busy schedules and what you to make the most of their limited time. Name your class something that will catch the attention of your target audience and design your class to have three to five specific areas to cover. Ensure that you explain the goal of the class and what the students will be able to do or learn as part of the class. Be accurate in what you know and what the student will learn. All this information should be documented as part of your class description on the LSN website as well as reviewed at the beginning of your class.
Ensure that your biography of yourself as an instructor accurately explains your level of expertise. Do not oversell or undersell your knowledge level. Our students are bright individuals and they will know and be upset if they are misinformed. Honesty is the best and only policy at LSN. Ensure this information is accurately described on the LSN website as well as communicated to your students at the beginning of your class.
When determining the length of your class, ensure that you have adequate time to cover the materials described in your class timeframe. If you appear to be taking too long, use good time management to ensure you cover those items mentioned in your class description and support the benefits that student should receive from taking your class. If you appear to be moving through the material more quickly than expected, be prepared to cover additional/option material that could benefit students in the class. Ensure you leave time for questions and answers from the students. No question is a dumb question, so please express that in your answers and delivery.
LSN classes are exciting and hands-on. The more involvement and the participation from the students generally leads to more satisfied learning. Prepare and structure your class so your students can actively participate. A quick round of introduction at the beginning of class will allow everyone to learn names as well as get a general level of expertise from the students.
At the end of the class, ensure you thank your students and if LSN has proposal items for the class, ensure that you hand these out. Inform the student that a satisfaction survey will be sent to them from LSN for their feedback. If you teach other classes or know of related classes from LSN, please feel free to inform the students that they can go to LSN to sign-up. You must have the students to complete the class sign-in roster and send this to LSN after completion of the class. We thank you for your time and commitment to providing exciting learning opportunities at LSN!
